The Salesian Congregation in the world<\/strong><\/p>\n

Our mission<\/strong>
\n Education and evangelization constitute the heart of our identity and of our service. The educational-pastoral project we carry out is oriented towards the integral promotion of the person in his or her human, Christian and social dimension.<\/p>\n

The privileged recipients of our mission are the young, in particular the poorest, young workers and those preparing to enter the world of work, together with vocations to the consecrated life. On behalf of these recipients we also work in popular settings, with specific attention to the laity engaged in evangelization, to the family, to social communication and to peoples not yet evangelized.<\/p>\n

The activities and works through which we carry out the mission take shape according to the concrete needs of the people and of the contexts in which we are inserted. We give priority to those areas in which it is possible to promote in a significant way the human and Christian education of the young.<\/p>\n

1. The Oratory and the Youth Centre<\/strong>
\n The Oratory, or the “courtyard that welcomes”, is the educational and evangelising environment directed above all to children and pre-adolescents. It is closely linked to the playground, to play, to free time, to wide hospitality, to informal encounters and to the first experience of the Salesian home.<\/p>\n

The Youth Centre, or “the path that forms”, is a place of encounter and formation for adolescents and young people, with more structured proposals for integral growth, groups, formative paths, human and Christian commitment, volunteering, animation and co-responsibility.<\/p>\n

These are environments of wide welcome, open to a great variety of young people \u2013 in particular to those who are most distant, and belonging to the same Salesian intuition: a house that is open, educational, evangelizing, capable of welcoming everyone and of accompanying each one according to age and journey. It is a missionary presence in the world of youth and in civil society.<\/p>\n

2. The School and Vocational Training<\/strong>
\n These are places of systematic education, inspired by Christian values and animated by the Salesian spirit and pedagogy. They promote popular education attentive to the young most in need, look after their professional preparation and accompany them in their responsible entry into the world of work.<\/p>\n

3. The Boarding House and the Residence<\/strong>
\n They offer welcome to young people who lack adequate family support or who are temporarily away from their family. In a family atmosphere, significant relationships, personal responsibility, group life and paths of human and Christian formation are fostered.<\/p>\n

4. The presence in the university world<\/strong>
\n It is realised through institutions of higher education of Christian inspiration, with a Catholic identity and a Salesian style; university residences and halls of residence; services of animation and university ministry, oriented to the integral growth of the student.<\/p>\n

5. The Parish<\/strong>
\n It is characterised by a particular attention to the young, above all to the poorest and to popular settings. The Salesian religious community forms its animating nucleus. Evangelisation and education in the faith are closely integrated with the human promotion of people and of the whole community.<\/p>\n

6. Works and services for young people in situations of vulnerability and exclusion<\/strong>
\n These are educational settings with a family character, animated by a community, which operate according to the criterion of prevention proper to Don Bosco’s Preventive System. Inspired by Christian values, they collaborate with other institutions to counter social exclusion and to promote a culture of solidarity.<\/p>\n

7. Social Communication<\/strong>
\n It is expressed through education in critical understanding and in the conscious use of the media; the promotion of the languages of music, theatre, art and culture; formation in the aesthetic, moral and critical sense; the promotion of information and of publishing ventures in the field of the press, radio, television, the Internet and the other instruments of communication, at the service of the Salesian educational-pastoral plan.<\/p>\n

8. New forms of Salesian presence among young people<\/strong>
–The Salesian Youth Movement<\/em><\/strong>: a network of groups and associations that identify with the Salesian spirit and pedagogy, share the educational and evangelizing choice, and coordinate themselves in a journey of communion and co-responsibility.
–The Salesian Volunteers<\/em><\/strong>: an experience of educational commitment and human promotion in favour of young people, especially the poorest, in the style of the Preventive System and according to the values of Salesian youth spirituality. It aims at the transformation of society, at removing the causes of injustice and at the volunteer’s vocational growth in a community setting.
–Vocational guidance services<\/em><\/strong>: meetings, guidance centres, welcoming communities and specific vocation promotion pathways.
–Specialised services for Christian formation<\/em><\/strong>: centres of pedagogical guidance, spirituality and retreat houses, centres of pastoral and catechetical formation and other initiatives dedicated to the maturing of faith.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
