Today, this Region is configured as a laboratory of intercultural and interreligious dialogue, linking the shores of southern Europe with North Africa and the Middle East.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Structure and Provinces<\/strong><br \/>\n              The Region is  characterised by a complex organisational structure, composed of <strong>twelve circumscriptions<\/strong> that reflect the richness of the  local traditions and the specificity of the territories:<br \/>\n              &#8211; Italy: Piedmont and Valle d&#8217;Aosta  (ICP), Lombardy-Emilia (ILE), Southern Italy (IME), Sicily (ISI), North-East  (INE) and Central Italy (ICC)<br \/>\n              &#8211; Spain: Mary Help of Christians (SMX) and  Saint James the Greater (SSM)<br \/>\n              &#8211; Portugal (POR)<br \/>\n              &#8211; Croatia (CRO)<br \/>\n              &#8211; Middle East (MOR)<br \/>\n              &#8211; North Africa (CNA)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Geographical extension<\/strong><br \/>\n              Salesian action develops in <strong>22 countries<\/strong>, embracing contexts profoundly different from one another: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Cape Verde, Croatia, Egypt, Iran, Israel, Italy, Kosovo, Lebanon, Lithuania, Morocco, Moldova, Montenegro, Palestine, Portugal, Romania, San Marino, Syria, Spain, Switzerland and Tunisia.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Presence and charismatic legacy<\/strong><br \/>\n              The Mediterranean  Region counts on the presence of more than two thousand Salesians, who operate in  more than three hundred houses. Besides safeguarding the places of origin, these communities  are at the forefront in formal and informal education, with a vast network of  schools, vocational training centres, universities, oratories and youth  centres.<br \/>\n              The commitment of the  Salesians in this area today focuses on the new challenges of Europe and of the  Mediterranean basin: the welcome and integration of migrants, the struggle against school dropout and support for the young in zones of  conflict, as in the Middle East.
