Central and Northern Europe Region

Salesian Regions

The Central and Northern Europe Region embraces a vast and profoundly diversified territory, extending from the coasts of the Atlantic to the plains of Eastern Europe and the borders with Asia. In this context, marked by a centuries-old history and constant geopolitical changes, the Salesian Congregation works to be a bridge between cultures and a concrete support for the younger generations in search of meaning and a future.

Structure and Provinces
The Region is organised in sixteen Provinces and circumscriptions, which reflect the linguistic and social complexity of the territory:
– Austria (AUS), Germany (GER), Great Britain (GBR), Ireland (IRL), Malta (MLT)
– Belgium North and Holland (BEN), France – Belgium South (FRB)
– Poland: Krakow (PLS), Piła (PLN), Warsaw (PLE), Wrocław (PLO)
– Czech Republic (CEP), Slovakia (SLK), Slovenia (SLO), Hungary (UNG)
– Ukraine – Mary Help of Christians (UKR)

Geographical Extension
The Salesian mission unfolds across no fewer than 24 countries, covering an area that goes beyond the borders of the European Union: Austria, Azerbaijan, Belgium, Belarus, Bulgaria, France, Georgia, Germany, Great Britain, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, the Czech Republic, Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine and Hungary.

Presence and Education today
The Region counts on the dedication of more than fifteen hundred Salesians active in more than two hundred houses. In an increasingly secularised and multicultural Europe, the action of the Sons of Don Bosco focuses on the management of schools, vocational training centres, family homes and oratories.
Particular attention is given to the welcome of migrants, to support for marginalised young people in the great metropolises and, in recent years, to humanitarian and spiritual assistance in areas marked by conflicts. Through education and solidarity, the Central and Northern Europe Region continues to promote a vision of humanity founded on dignity and on hope, adapting the Salesian educational style to the new challenges of the digital world and of social integration.
