Interamerica Region
Salesian Regions
The Interamerica Region constitutes a vast geographic and cultural mosaic that unites the three Americas, from the northern regions of Canada and the United States to the Andean peaks and the Caribbean coasts. This Region stands out for its capacity to adapt the Salesian charism to extremely diversified contexts, working for social integration and educational excellence throughout the continent.
Organization and Provinces
The Region is coordinated through thirteen Provinces, which manage the Salesian works in territories ranging from great industrial metropolises to mission areas:
– Antilles (ANT), Haïti (HAI)
– Bolivia (BOL), Ecuador (ECU), Perú (PER), Venezuela (VEN)
– Central America (CAM)
– Colombia: Bogotá (COB) and Medellín (COM)
– Mexico: Guadalajara (MEG) and México (MEM)
– United States: East (SUE) and West (SUO)
Geographical extension
The action of the Congregation develops in 19 countries and territories, reflecting the intercontinental nature of the Region: Bolivia, Canada, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Curaçao, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, United States and Venezuela.
Presence and social impact
The vitality of the Interamerica Region is sustained by the work of more than a thousand Salesians present in more than two hundred and fifty houses. The network of Salesian works in this area is among the most varied: it comprises universities of prestige, technical training centres, agricultural schools, parishes and a vast array of programmes dedicated to young migrants and street children.
The priority commitment is directed to the defence of the rights of minors and to the creation of opportunities for the poorest sectors of the population. In contexts often marked by economic inequalities and migration challenges, the Salesians of the Interamerica Region work to offer an integral formation that combines professional competence and ethical values, promoting a culture of solidarity and sustainable development throughout the region.
