In memoriam.

We remember the Salesians of our own Province, including those who left for the missions, and those from other Provinces who died during their mission in the Province.

We also remember:

  • Rectors Major;
  • General Councillors and Provincials;
  • Cardinals, Bishops, Apostolic Administrators;
  • Confreres worthy of being remembered (great writers, professors, pastors, etc.).
  • Confreres whose cause of Beatification is in progress, even if they are recognised as Servants of God or Venerable;

The Blessed are not remembered, because with beatification the Church has officially recognised that they enjoy heavenly beatitude. Rather, we turn to them to ask for their intercession with God, even if their cause of canonisation is in progress.

Canonisation is not a second recognition that a Blessed is in Heaven; that recognition is already implicit in beatification. Canonisation extends public veneration to the universal Church and involves a definitive pronouncement on the holiness of the person.
